Please take to the GC Recycle Center & not to the Shelter. A special container for GCSH is set aside for Aluminum Can donations there.

Home Cooking for Dogs

The shelter is selling the book Home Cooking for Dogs as part of a fund raising effort.

You can purchase the book at the shelter for $11 with $3 of each purchase going directly to the shelter.

Monetary donations are always welcome.

Volunteering

Volunteers are needed for several different reasons. There are things we cannot accomplish in a days work & things we cannot afford to do.

Dog Walkers

Exercise is crucial for shelter animals. If you are interested in becoming a dog-walker at the shelter please stop in Tuesday-Saturday from 11am-3pm and fill out a volunteer application.

Requirements to become a dog walker are:

• Applicants are required to attend a (1) day orientation.
• Applicants under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by an adult.
• Orientation is at 11:00am on the second Saturday of each month.

Transporters

Now that the shelter has established it’s Spay & Neuter Program prior to ownership, all animals that are age appropriate & intact must be transported to Dr. S. Borter of Bloomfield Vet Clinic or Dr. Royal in Oden. Most transports will occur before 8:00 A.M. Monday – Friday. It is the responsibility of the shelter to have the animal(s) delivered pre-surgery,and the new owner will pick up the animal post-surgery.

A Volunteer for this service should have:

• Reliable transportation
• A vehicle that can accommodate safe & comfortable transport.
• A valid driver’s license & clean driving record

Fostering

It is inevitable that our shelter will receive elderly, ill, lame or pregnant animals & from season to season experience the need to de-populate due to the spread of contagious disease.

At these times the need for Foster Homes is always wanting.

Animals with special needs fair better in an environment low on stress and big on love.

Special attention to these animals can make all the difference in their recovery.

If you are interested in becoming a Foster Home for a special dog or cat in need you will need to accomplish the following & fulfill these requirements:

• Visit the shelter & fill out a Foster Application.
• Expect a in home visit conducted by Shelter Manager or Animal Control.
• To provide adequate shelter & fresh food & water daily.
• Be prepared to support the animals needs both financially & emotionally.
• Know that the animal with special needs in your care may or may not be short-term.

If not, don’t worry – anyone interested is invited to help with grounds beautification for the library. You do not have to have any special talent to join in the fun!  We are looking for people wishing to help the library finish sprucing up now through October. Tools will be provided and you can help with planting, weeding, watering and labeling of plants and flowers. Please call the library and let us know when you would like to help or stop by the circulation desk to volunteer some time. We will also schedule the first and third Fridays in September and October from 9:00 – 11:00 AM as specific “Grounds Work Days.” For these, you can sign up or drop-in as your schedule permits.

Sept. 15th – 3 to 5

This class will be for people who know very little about computers
Email & Internet Class

Sept. 29th – 3 to 5

This class will be for people who have knowledge of how a computer works but very little about email and internet and would like to learn more.

Microsoft Word Class

Oct. 13th – 3 to 5

This class will be for people who are knowledgeable about computers but would like to learn about Microsoft Word and how to use it.

Have you heard a good book lately?

The Linton Public Library recently added exciting new items called Playaways to our collection.  A Playaway is a self-playing digital audio book, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

They require one AAA battery (provided by library) and a standard set of headphones (not provided by the library).

Contest Rules:

1 entry per person per category, One 1st and 2nd place prize awarded per category.
Entries must be received at Linton Public Library
No later than 5:00pm, Friday, August 27th
All entries must have a label with name, age, phone number and title of art placed on back only.
All art and/or photographs must be framed with picture wire or someway to hang.
All pieces must have been created within last 12 months.
All winning entries will be displayed at the Library for 2 weeks after contest.

CATEGORIES FOR DISPLAY AND CONTEST INCLUDE:

All forms of photography
Paintings (watercolor, acrylic, oil, etc.)
Sketches (pencil, charcoal, chalk, etc.)
Pottery and sculpture (small and medium size)

ART DISPLAY: 20 AND OLDER

Limit 3 display pieces per person

For every book you read, you get a chance at the weekly drawing for a bag full of goodies.

Weekly drawings will be done on Thursday evenings.  Winners will be notified by phone and their names will be posted at the library.  You have until the end of the following week to claim your prize or an alternate winner will be chosen.
